Cirkus Benneweis

Cirkus Benneweis is a prominent Danish circus that was founded in the year 1887. It was established by the circus performer Gottfried Benneweis. This makes it one of the oldest continually operating circuses in all of Denmark.

The circus has remained a family-run business for over a century, passing down through the Benneweis family. It was most recently managed by members of the fourth generation of the family, including Diana Benneweis. The family has been instrumental in keeping the traditional European circus arts alive in Scandinavia.

The circus features a wide variety of traditional circus performances, including acrobats, clowns, and animal acts. Over the decades, they have brought in performers from all over the world to tour across Denmark. They are particularly famous for their high-quality equestrian and horse-riding shows.

The traditional circus has faced extreme difficulties in recent years due to changing public opinions on animal acts and the economic impact of the pandemic. While it historically operated continuously since 1887, its touring schedule has been severely reduced or paused. The brand and its historical legacy, however, remain deeply respected in Danish cultural history.
