description Cladonia glauca Overview
Cladonia glauca is a fruticose lichen that produces pale gray to brown podetia, usually 1 to 5 centimeters tall, with pointed tips or occasional narrow perforate cups. The lower portions are commonly squamulose or granular, while the upper portions are finely sorediate; apothecia are rare. It grows on rotting stumps, dead wood, acid humus, peat, and heathland or moorland soils, and is recorded widely in Europe. Chemical tests help distinguish it from similar Cladonia species.
