description Clara Bog Overview

Clara Bog is a raised peat bog near Clara in County Offaly, Ireland, and is among the most extensively studied surviving examples of Ireland's midland raised bogs. Its peatland habitats support specialized plants, birds, and invertebrates adapted to acidic, waterlogged conditions. Parts of the bog are protected as a national nature reserve and as a Special Area of Conservation under the European Union Habitats Directive.
