Correction

The novel follows an unnamed narrator who spends time at an isolated rural estate sorting through the papers of his recently deceased friend, Roithamer. He discovers Roithamer's obsessive project of building a perfectly geometric cone house in the middle of a forest.

Roithamer is the narrator's deceased friend and a brilliant, obsessive scientist who dedicated years to building a cone-shaped home for his sister. He is heavily based on the real-life philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, whom author Thomas Bernhard admired.

The novel deeply explores themes of artistic perfectionism, madness, and self-destruction. It highlights how Roithamer's pursuit of building a perfect, isolated cone house ultimately drives him to his death.

Like many of Thomas Bernhard's works, the novel is written in long, unbroken paragraphs without traditional chapter breaks. The narrative is driven by a repetitive, obsessive monologue style delivered by the narrator.
