Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

Jacob Palmer is played by Ryan Gosling, who received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for the role. Jacob is a smooth-talking bachelor who teaches Steve Carell's character, Cal, how to rebuild his confidence after his wife asks for a divorce.

The film weaves interlocking storylines that collide in a scene where it is revealed that Jacob is dating Hannah, the daughter of Cal and Emily, the couple whose marriage is falling apart. The revelation creates a comedic and emotional climax tying the separate threads together.

The film was directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who also directed I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) and Focus (2015). The screenplay was written by Dan Fogelman, who went on to create the NBC television drama series This Is Us.

The film was shot primarily in and around Los Angeles, California, including locations in the San Fernando Valley. The bar where Jacob teaches Cal his dating techniques was a set constructed specifically for the production rather than a real operating establishment.
