The crestfish, Lophotus lacepede, is an elongated marine fish in the family Lophotidae. It has a ribbon-like body, a steep forehead, and an enlarged first dorsal-fin ray that forms a conspicuous crest above the head. A distinctive defensive feature is its ability to release a dark, ink-like fluid from the cloaca when disturbed, an unusual capability among bony fishes.
