description Cuphophyllus pratensis Overview
Cuphophyllus pratensis is a waxcap mushroom found mainly in unimproved, short grasslands, especially in Europe. It produces orange, buff, or apricot-colored fruit bodies with waxy gills and is associated with habitats that have received little fertilizer and limited agricultural intensification. Because waxcap communities decline when grasslands are ploughed or heavily enriched, the species is used as an indicator in surveys of biologically important pasture and meadow fungi.
