Da Cor do Pecado

The series stars Reynaldo Gianecchini as Paco, a wealthy protagonist caught in a web of lies, and Taís Araújo as Preta, his true love. Taís Araújo made history as one of the first Black actresses to unequivocally headline a primetime telenovela on TV Globo. The show originally aired in 2004.

The plot revolves around Paco, a rich young man who falls in love with Preta, a Black woman from a lower-class background, only to have his evil twin brother and family schemes tear them apart. The narrative explores complex moral dilemmas, forbidden love, and class divides within Brazil. The story spans years of deception and eventual reunions.

The screenplay was written by the renowned Brazilian author João Emanuel Carneiro. It was his first telenovela as a solo writer for the 7 PM time slot on TV Globo. Carneiro later went on to write other massive hits for the network, including Avenida Brasil.

The title translates to "The Color of Sin," which plays on the racial themes of the telenovela and the prejudice the main character, Preta, faces. It also alludes to the moral ambiguities and forbidden loves explored in the wealthy family's storyline. The series was a highly successful broadcast for TV Globo in 2004.
