Daniel 'Danny' Lewin (1970–2001) was an Israeli-American mathematician and entrepreneur who co-founded Akamai Technologies in 1998 alongside MIT professor Tom Leighton. His work on consistent hashing and network algorithms helped establish the technical foundation for content delivery networks (CDNs). On September 11, 2001, Lewin was killed aboard American Airlines Flight 11 and is believed to have been the first victim of the 9/11 attacks, reportedly stabbed while attempting to resist the hijackers.
