He is highly regarded for his work in the post-bop and avant-garde jazz idioms, having collaborated extensively with musicians like Elvin Jones and McCoy Tyner. In the early 1970s, he gained international recognition touring and recording with Miles Davis's ensemble during its electric period, notably appearing on the album 'On the Corner.' Liebman is also a prolific educator who founded the International Association of Schools of Jazz and has authored several books on saxophone technique.
