Daydream

"Daydream" is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, released by Columbia Records on October 3, 1995. The album was a massive commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It cemented her status as one of the best-selling musical artists of the decade.

The "Daydream" album represents a musical shift from Carey's earlier, more traditional pop and R&B work toward a greater incorporation of hip-hop elements. This transition was heavily influenced by the album's lead single, "Fantasy," which famously sampled the Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love." She collaborated heavily with producer Jermaine Dupri and Ol' Dirty Bastard on the remixes.

The song "One Sweet Day," a collaboration with the group Boyz II Men, spent a record-breaking 16 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It held the record for the longest run at number one for over two decades. The song was written as a tribute to loved ones who had passed away from AIDS.

"Daydream" has sold over 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. Its massive sales figures were partly due to a highly successful world tour. The album also earned Carey six Grammy Award nominations in 1996.
