Dead to the World is a novel by Charlaine Harris published in 2004 as the fourth book in her Southern Vampire Mysteries series. The series, also known as the Sookie Stackhouse novels, inspired the HBO television adaptation True Blood. The books follow Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress in rural Louisiana, and her interactions with vampires and other supernatural beings in a world where synthetic blood has allowed vampires to integrate into human society.
