Death in Venice

Death in Venice is actually an adaptation of the 1912 novella of the same name by German author Thomas Mann. While fictional, Mann was heavily inspired by real events during a trip to Venice, and Visconti's adaptation further blurred the lines by making the protagonist a composer rather than a writer.
