help Detective Conan FAQ

Why is Detective Conan called Case Closed in English?

The English title was changed to Case Closed because of legal concerns surrounding the name Conan. The protagonist is still called Conan Edogawa within the story.

How did Shinichi Kudo become Conan Edogawa?

Members of the Black Organization force Shinichi to take the experimental poison APTX 4869. Instead of killing him, it shrinks his body to that of a child, so he adopts the name Conan Edogawa.

Does Ran know that Conan is really Shinichi?

Ran repeatedly suspects Conan because of his deductions and behavior, but the secret is repeatedly protected or explained away. The tension between her suspicions and Shinichi's concealment is a long-running part of Gosho Aoyama's manga.

Where should a new reader start Detective Conan?

The clearest starting point is manga volume 1, which introduces Shinichi, Ran, Professor Agasa and the shrinking incident. The manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1994.
