description Devil's Sinkhole Overview
Devil's Sinkhole is a vertical limestone cavern in Edwards County, Texas, protected within Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area. The opening is about 50 feet wide, and a shaft drops roughly 140 feet before reaching a cavern more than 320 feet in diameter and about 350 feet deep. The site is a seasonal roost for Mexican free-tailed bats, with Texas Parks and Wildlife estimating that about three million bats emerge on warm nights during their late-spring-to-early-fall stay. Public access is by guided tour and reservations are required.
