Donkervoort has a long-standing partnership with Audi, utilizing modified versions of Audi's turbocharged TFSI engines. For example, the Donkervoort D8 GTO is powered by an Audi-sourced 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. This engine provides incredible power-to-weight ratios, propelling the lightweight cars from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds.

Historically, Donkervoort vehicles were built without ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) or ESP (Electronic Stability Program) to provide the purest, most engaging driving experience. However, modern iterations like the F22 model do include ABS as standard equipment. The brand still emphasizes driver engagement and minimal electronic intervention.

Standard Donkervoort models are generally not street legal in the United States due to strict federal crash and emissions regulations. They do not have airbags or conform to standard DOT safety mandates. American enthusiasts typically have to import them strictly for track use under show-or-display exemptions.

As of the early 2020s, the Donkervoort F22 is the brand's flagship model, succeeding the popular D8 GTO series. The F22 features an updated chassis, improved aerodynamics, and even more aggressive styling compared to its predecessors. Production is strictly limited to maintain exclusivity and high build quality.
