Draganflyer Commander

The Draganflyer Commander is a tethered drone system made by Canadian firm Draganfly Innovations. A cable links the aircraft to a ground station and can supply power and communications.

Tethering allows the aircraft to remain airborne for continuous surveillance without relying only on onboard battery capacity. It can be useful for persistent observation at events, emergencies, or security sites.

Its defining design is tethered operation, so its main advantage is uninterrupted aerial coverage while connected to the ground system. Untethered flight would remove the feature that distinguishes it from an ordinary battery-powered multirotor.

The Commander is built around persistent tethered surveillance, while the X4-ES is a conventional quadcopter used for mobile aerial imaging. The two systems therefore prioritize endurance and continuity versus flexible untethered movement.
