description Drakelow Tunnels Overview
Drakelow Tunnels are a network of underground passages near Kidderminster in Worcestershire, England, originally constructed between 1941 and 1943 as a shadow factory for the Rover car company to produce aircraft engines. After World War II, portions of the complex were repurposed as a regional seat of government during the Cold War, intended to house officials in the event of nuclear conflict. The site was decommissioned by the Ministry of Defence in the early 1990s and now operates as a historical attraction.
