description DSiWare Overview
DSiWare comprised downloadable games and applications for the Nintendo DSi console, initially accessible through the DSi Shop. In 2011, a feature update brought this library to the Nintendo 3DS eShop, though some titles remained exclusive to the original DSi platform. The eShop’s closure in 2023 made all DSiWare content publicly unavailable.

help DSiWare FAQ
What was DSiWare, and could an original Nintendo DS run it?
DSiWare was Nintendo's downloadable software service for the DSi and DSi XL, later also available on Nintendo 3DS systems. It was not designed for the original DS or DS Lite. [Nintendo DSiWare](https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/dsiware/index.html)
Can I still buy DSiWare through the original DSi Shop?
No. Nintendo ended new DSi Shop purchases, including free downloads, on March 31, 2017. Nintendo said most DSiWare would continue on the Nintendo 3DS eShop at that time, with some exceptions. [Nintendo support](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16616)
Can purchased DSiWare be transferred from a DSi to a 3DS?
Yes, Nintendo provided a system-transfer process that moved eligible purchased DSiWare licenses to a Nintendo 3DS for redownload. Unused DSi Points did not transfer, and free or unavailable titles could be excluded. [Nintendo transfer guide](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/150/p/696/c/898)
Why are some DSiWare titles tied to a specific region or console?
Nintendo says the DSi Shop was region-specific, so a Japanese DSi could download software from the Japanese shop rather than another region's catalog. Some DSiWare titles were also unavailable for transfer or were not offered on 3DS. [Nintendo region support](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3985)
