Duilio Arigoni (1928–2020) was a Swiss chemist at ETH Zurich who made contributions to the understanding of biosynthetic pathways, particularly the stereochemistry of terpenoid and isoprene-unit biosynthesis. He applied isotopic labeling and mechanistic reasoning to elucidate the enzymatic steps by which living organisms construct complex natural products. Arigoni also contributed to the understanding of vitamin B12 and cofactor chemistry. He was elected a Foreign Associate of the U.S.
National Academy of Sciences.
