E. Sreedharan

E. Sreedharan is most famous for serving as the managing director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). He successfully oversaw the construction of the Delhi Metro, completing phases of the project well ahead of schedule. Because of this massive undertaking, he is widely celebrated across the country for his efficient management.

Before the Delhi Metro, Sreedharan oversaw the construction of the Konkan Railway, which spans the mountainous western coast of India. The project involved boring dozens of tunnels and building major bridges across rugged terrain. He completed the massive infrastructure project in the late 1990s without significant cost overruns.

He is widely recognized and respected as the "Metro Man of India." This nickname reflects his transformative impact on the country's urban public transportation systems. His reputation for executing massive, complex transit projects on time has made him an engineering legend in the nation.

Sreedharan was awarded the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 by the Government of India. The Padma Vibhushan is the country's second-highest civilian award. He received these honors in recognition of his unparalleled contributions to civil engineering and infrastructure.
