Embark Dog DNA Test

Embark screens for over 200 genetic health conditions, including degenerative myelopathy, exercise-induced collapse, and MDR1 drug sensitivity. Results categorize your dog as clear, a carrier, or at risk for each condition, with veterinary guidance provided for any positive findings.

Embark was developed in partnership with Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine and analyzes over 230,000 genetic markers, testing for more health conditions than Wisdom Panel. Wisdom Panel remains a strong competitor for breed identification and typically costs less, but Embark is generally regarded as more comprehensive for health-focused screening.

Results are typically delivered within 2 to 4 weeks after the lab receives your dog's saliva swab sample. Embark sends email updates throughout the process, and the final results appear in an online portal that includes ancestry breakdowns, health reports, and a relative finder showing genetically related dogs in the database.

Embark provides an estimate of your dog's adult weight based on genetic markers, which is most useful for puppies whose final size is unknown. The test also reports on traits like coat type, coat color, and likely shedding level, giving owners insight into why their dog looks and behaves the way it does.
