Fossils of this large marine mammal were recovered from coastal deposits of the former Tethys Sea in what is now Egypt. As an early cetacean, it represents a transitional phase in whale evolution, retaining large hind limbs capable of supporting its weight on land while also exhibiting adaptations for an aquatic lifestyle.
