Faithless - Reverence

Faithless's debut album Reverence was released in 1996, originally through Cheeky Records in the UK. The album was later re-released in some markets with additional mixes following the runaway success of its singles. Reverence reached the UK Top 10 and established Faithless as one of the defining acts of the 1990s electronic music era.

The two breakout singles from Reverence were Insomnia and Salva Mea, both of which became defining tracks of the 1990s progressive house and trance movement. Insomnia, in particular, became an anthem with its iconic buildup and Maxi Jazz's spoken-word vocal, and it charted across Europe. A later single, Don't Leave, also gained traction and appeared on the album's expanded editions.

Faithless consisted of Maxi Jazz (vocalist and MC, who passed away in 2022), Sister Bliss (keyboards and production), Rollo Armstrong (production), and Jamie Catto (vocals and samples). Rollo is also known as the brother of singer Dido and co-producer of her albums. The group's combination of Maxi Jazz's conscious lyrics with Sister Bliss's anthemic production was central to their sound from the debut album onward.

Reverence was reissued in expanded form following the album's commercial breakthrough, with some editions adding bonus remixes of the hit singles. Over the years, various streaming platforms have made remastered versions of the original tracks available. For physical deluxe editions with extensive liner notes, collectors should check the Faithless official store or second-hand marketplaces for the most complete pressings.
