Flos Arco Floor Lamp

The Arco floor lamp was designed by the celebrated Italian duo Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. They created the lamp specifically for the Italian lighting manufacturer Flos in 1962.

The sturdy base of the Flos Arco lamp is carved from a solid block of white Carrara marble. This incredibly heavy marble base is necessary to counterbalance the long, sweeping arc of the stainless steel stem.

The designers wanted to create a ceiling lamp that didn't require homeowners to drill a hole in their ceiling. The long, sweeping arc allows the light to suspend over a dining or coffee table without obstructing the view across the room.

Because the lamp is incredibly heavy, the designers cleverly included a hole through the center of the marble base. By inserting a broomstick through the hole, two people can easily lift the entire lamp and transport it to change the bulb.
