Flying Dutchman Sailing

description Flying Dutchman Sailing Overview

The Flying Dutchman is a high-performance, double-handed sailing dinghy originally designed by Uus van Essen in 1951. Characterized by its large sail area, symmetrical spinnaker, and twin trapezes, the boat was engineered to provide demanding tactical and physical racing. It served as an official Olympic class for over three decades, featuring in the Summer Games from 1960 in Rome until 1992 in Barcelona. Although no longer an Olympic event, the class maintains an active international presence with competitive fleets of amateur and veteran sailors.
