Frigg

Frigg is a central goddess in Norse mythology, recognized as the queen of Asgard and the wife of the chief god, Odin. She is primarily known as the goddess of marriage, motherhood, and the sky. She plays a vital role in the mythological pantheon as a figure of cosmic sovereignty.

Frigg possesses the gift of prophecy and foreknowledge, allowing her to see the future and the fate of all men. However, she is famously known for keeping her visions to herself and never revealing what she knows. This silence makes her one of the most mysterious figures in the Norse myths.

Frigg is the mother of Baldr, the beloved Norse god of light, peace, and purity. According to the Prose Edda, she is also associated with Hodr, the blind god who was tricked into killing Baldr. Her desperate attempts to protect Baldr from harm are one of her most famous mythological stories.

While the two goddesses share some similarities and are often confused, Frigg is the queen of the Aesir tribe and focuses on marriage and motherhood. Freyja, on the other hand, belongs to the Vanir tribe and presides over war, magic (seidr), and death. Frigg is associated with the domestic sphere, whereas Freyja is tied to magic and the battlefield.
