Fritz Haag

Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr is one of the most celebrated vineyard sites in the entire Mosel region, a steep, south-facing slate hillside that holds the heat exceptionally well and produces intensely mineral Rieslings. Fritz Haag owns a portion of this Grand Cru (Grosses Gewächs) site, which is widely considered a benchmark for Mosel Riesling at every Prädikat level from Kabinett to Trockenbeerenauslese.

Fritz Haag is renowned across the full Prädikat spectrum, producing not only dry Rieslings (Großes Gewächs and estate Qualitätswein) but also Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, and Trockenbeerenauslese from the Brauneberger Juffer and Juffer-Sonnenuhr vineyards. Their sweet and off-dry wines are particularly prized for their combination of filigree acidity and concentrated fruit from the steep Devonian slate soils.

Oliver Haag currently manages the Fritz Haag estate in Brauneberg, continuing a family winemaking tradition on the Mosel that spans generations. He took over day-to-day operations from his father Wilhelm Haag, who was himself one of the most respected figures in Mosel winemaking, and has maintained the estate's reputation for precision and site fidelity.

Fritz Haag is based in the village of Brauneberg, located in the Mittelmosel (Middle Mosel), the sub-region widely considered the qualitative heart of the Mosel winegrowing area. Brauneberg sits between the more famous towns of Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach, and the village's name literally translates to 'brown mountain,' a reference to the dark slate soils that define its vineyards.
