Fuller's Vintage Ale

Each annual edition uses a distinct recipe or selection of malts and hops while retaining the concept of a strong, bottle-conditioned ale built for aging. The series began in 1997, making the vintage year part of the beer's identity.

It can develop dried-fruit, caramel, sherry-like, and oxidative notes as it matures. Fuller's has traditionally presented it as suitable for cellaring, but aging conditions and personal taste determine whether an older bottle is preferable.

Bottle conditioning means live yeast remains in the bottle and continues a slow secondary fermentation. A small sediment is therefore normal, and careful pouring can keep most of it at the bottom if a clear glass is preferred.
