Gavrilo Princip

description Gavrilo Princip Overview

Gavrilo Princip was a Bosnian Serb nationalist who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife, Sophie, in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. The killings followed a Bosnian Serb nationalist conspiracy and became the immediate political crisis that led Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia. The resulting chain of mobilisations and declarations of war developed into the First World War. Princip was captured at the scene and died in prison in 1918.
