Gay's the Word is a British musical comedy by Ivor Novello, with a book by Alan Melville. It premiered at the Saville Theatre in London in 1951 and was Novello's final stage musical. The work belongs to the mid-20th-century British tradition of light musical theatre, combining songs, spoken comedy, and a theatrical plot for a general stage audience. Its historical interest also comes from its place at the end of Novello's career.
