description Gemini 6A Overview

Launched by NASA in 1965, Gemini 6A was a crewed spaceflight that successfully achieved the first space rendezvous in history. Commanded by Wally Schirra and piloted by Thomas Stafford, the spacecraft flew in close formation with the Gemini 7 vehicle in Earth orbit. This mission demonstrated critical orbital maneuvering capabilities required for the upcoming Apollo Moon landings and was a milestone for human spaceflight.
