George de Bothezat

description George de Bothezat Overview

George de Bothezat was a Russian-born American engineer, mathematician, and aviation pioneer known for early work on helicopter design. Working for the United States Army Air Service, he developed a large four-rotor aircraft that made controlled test flights at McCook Field in Ohio during 1922 and 1923. The machine demonstrated powered vertical flight but was complex and underpowered, and the Army ended the experimental program without adopting it operationally.
