George V. Chilingar was an Armenian-American geologist, petroleum engineer, and academic who taught at the University of Southern California. His work covered petroleum geology, carbonate rocks, sedimentology, geochemistry, and environmental engineering, with particular attention to the properties and origin of petroleum reservoirs. He edited or co-edited major works on carbonate rocks and published dozens of books and hundreds of technical articles.
