Georgian Rose Revolution

The revolution followed widespread allegations of electoral fraud during Georgia's 2003 parliamentary elections. Protesters demanded political change and the resignation of President Eduard Shevardnadze.

Demonstrators famously carried red roses as a symbol of peaceful protest. The image became associated with the movement that forced a change in Georgia's government in November 2003.

Mikheil Saakashvili became the central political figure after Eduard Shevardnadze resigned. He subsequently won the presidential election held in early 2004.
