help GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (Opal) FAQ

Is the GL.iNet Opal GL-SFT1200 actually a Wi-Fi 6 router?

No. Opal supports 802.11ac and is an AC1200-class Wi-Fi 5 router, with advertised rates of 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz.

Can the Opal turn hotel Wi-Fi into a private network?

Yes. Repeater mode lets the Opal join an existing wireless network and share it through your own SSID, so multiple devices can sit behind one travel router. Captive hotel login pages may still require authentication through a connected device.

Does the GL-SFT1200 support WireGuard and OpenVPN?

Yes. GL.iNet includes OpenVPN and WireGuard client and server support, but encrypted throughput is much lower than the router's headline AC1200 wireless rate.

What wired ports and power connection does the Opal have?

It has one Gigabit WAN port, two Gigabit LAN ports, and one USB 2.0 port. Power is supplied through USB-C at 5V/3A, and the router does not contain its own travel battery.
