Gojek

Gojek operates as a 'super app' offering GoFood (food delivery), GoSend (package delivery), GoMart (grocery delivery), GoPay (digital payments), and GoMassage, among dozens of other on-demand services. The company began in 2010 as a motorcycle ride-hailing call center in Jakarta with just three initial drivers before launching as a mobile app.

Gojek's largest market by far is Indonesia, where it was founded, and it also maintains operations in Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand. The company previously attempted expansion into the Philippines but withdrew, and it merged its Thai operations into a joint venture with its local partner.

GoPay is Gojek's integrated e-wallet that allows users to pay for rides, food delivery, and merchant purchases within the Gojek app without cash. It has become one of the most widely used digital payment methods in Indonesia, and Gojek spun off GoPay's parent company, GoTo Financial, as part of the broader GoTo Group following its merger with Tokopedia in 2021.

Grab, which began in Malaysia in 2012, acquired Uber's Southeast Asian operations in 2018 and became Gojek's primary regional competitor across ride-hailing, food delivery, and digital payments. Both companies have spent heavily to subsidize user acquisition, though Gojek has maintained a stronger position in Indonesia specifically, while Grab dominates more markets across the broader region.
