Gordon Bell is an American computer engineer who, at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), led the design of the PDP and VAX minicomputer families, including the influential VAX-11/780. After leaving DEC, he became a researcher at Microsoft Research and championed projects in telepresence and lifelogging, such as MyLifeBits. He served as the first assistant director for computing at the National Science Foundation. He is a National Medal of Technology recipient and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
