Gucci Dionysus Bag

The Gucci Dionysus debuted in 2015 as part of Alessandro Michele's first collections as creative director, marking a dramatic shift in Gucci's aesthetic under his leadership. The bag quickly became one of the defining luxury accessories of the mid-2010s and remains one of Gucci's most recognizable silhouettes.

The signature tiger head spur closure on the Dionysus bag references the Greek god Dionysus, whom Michele reimagined riding a tiger across the river Tigris in Gucci's brand storytelling. The textured tiger head hardware is cast in antiqued gold-tone metal and serves as the bag's clasp on the front flap.

The Dionysus is available in several sizes, including the Small (approximately 30 cm wide), the Mini (around 24 cm), and the Super Mini, which is a popular going-out option. There is also a Medium version and occasionally larger or special-edition variants. The Small size is the most commonly purchased for everyday use.

As of the mid-2020s, the Dionysus remains part of Gucci's permanent handbag collection, though the brand has rotated which colors, materials, and sizes are actively produced at any given time. Under creative director Sabato De Sarno, who succeeded Alessandro Michele, Gucci has emphasized newer lines like the Jackie 1961 and Horsebit 1955, but the Dionysus has not been formally retired.
