description Haida II Overview
Haida II was a female killer whale held at Sealand of the Pacific in Victoria, British Columbia. On 20 February 1991, she was one of three orcas involved in the incident that resulted in the drowning death of trainer Keltie Byrne after Byrne fell into the performance pool. The other orcas identified in accounts of the incident were Tilikum and Nootka IV. Haida II is therefore associated with the history of Sealand, captive-orca management, and the risks faced by trainers in marine-animal performance facilities.
