description Hallandsås Tunnel Overview
The Hallandsås Tunnel is a railway tunnel through the Hallandsås ridge in northwestern Skåne, Sweden. Opened in December 2015, it consists of two parallel single-track bores of about 8.7 kilometers and carries the West Coast Line between the southern and northern sides of the ridge. Construction began in 1992 and was delayed by unstable rock and major water inflows. A 1997 leak involving the sealant Rhoca-Gil caused environmental controversy and contributed to a long interruption in the project.
