description Hector's Beaked Whale Overview

Hector's beaked whale is a small, poorly known toothed whale of the family Ziphiidae, found in waters of the Southern Hemisphere. It was named after Sir James Hector, a New Zealand naturalist and geologist. The species is difficult to study because beaked whales spend much of their time offshore and dive deeply, leaving relatively few confirmed sightings compared with better-known whales and dolphins.
