Hellenic Republic (Greece)

The concept of Western democracy originated in the ancient Greek city-state of Athens around the 5th century BCE. Athenian democracy allowed eligible male citizens to vote directly on laws and state policies.

The ancient Olympic Games were first held in Greece in the year 776 BCE. They continued as a major Panhellenic festival for over a millennium until they were abolished by the Roman Emperor Theodosius I.

"Hellenic" relates to the ancient Greeks, their culture, and their language. The Hellenic Republic is the official name for the modern nation of Greece, reflecting its deep historical roots spanning over 3,000 years.

Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are widely considered the foundational figures of ancient Greek philosophy. Their work in ethics, metaphysics, and logic in Classical Athens set the stage for the development of Western intellectual tradition.
