Hengill fumaroles

description Hengill fumaroles Overview

The Hengill fumaroles are geothermal vent systems located within the Hengill volcanic area in southwestern Iceland, near Reykjavik. The Hengill system is one of Iceland's most geothermally active regions, with extensive fumaroles, hot springs, and boiling mud pools. The geothermal energy from this area is harnessed by two major power plants: Nesjavellir, operated since 1990, and Hellisheidi, commissioned in 2006, which together supply electricity and hot water to surrounding communities.
