Henry Ford

Henry Ford introduced the Ford Model T to the public on October 1, 1908. The vehicle was engineered to be an affordable, durable automobile for the average American, fundamentally changing the nature of transportation.

While he did not invent the assembly line itself, Henry Ford perfected the moving assembly line for mass production in 1913. This innovation at his Highland Park plant drastically reduced the time and cost required to build a Model T.

In 1914, Henry Ford shocked the industrial world by doubling the standard factory wage to five dollars a day. This bold move reduced employee turnover, increased productivity, and allowed his workers to afford the cars they were building.

Henry Ford never held an official political office, though he was briefly urged to run for the U.S. Senate and Presidency in the early 20th century. Instead, his influence was entirely industrial, utilizing his wealth to shape American manufacturing and public opinion.
