description Hermann Levi Overview

Hermann Levi was a German conductor and composer who lived from 1839 to 1900. He held important conducting posts in Karlsruhe and Munich and became closely associated with the operas of Richard Wagner. Wagner selected Levi to conduct the first performance of Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festival in 1882, despite Wagner's antisemitism and Levi's Jewish background.
