Hierakonpolis

description Hierakonpolis Overview

Hierakonpolis, also known as Nekhen, is an archaeological site in Upper Egypt that was an important center during the Predynastic and Early Dynastic periods. Excavations at the site found the Narmer Palette, a ceremonial stone object dating to the beginning of the First Dynasty and depicting imagery associated with King Narmer and early Egyptian kingship. The site is studied for evidence about settlement, ritual practice, political authority, and state formation in ancient Egypt.
