The Hungarian Soviet Republic was a communist government that existed in Hungary from March to August 1919. It was led by Béla Kun and attempted to establish a revolutionary socialist state after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the First World War. The regime lasted 133 days and ended after military pressure from Romania, domestic resistance, and the breakdown of its political support.
