Gon might be a country boy, but he has high aspirations. Despite his Aunt Mito's protests, Gon decides to follow in his father's footsteps and become a legendary Hunter. The Hunter hopefuls begin their journey by storm-tossed ship, where Gon meets Leorio and Kurapika, the only other applicants who aren't devastated by bouts of seasickness. Having survived the terrors of the high seas, Gon and his companions now have to prove their worth in a variety of tests in order to find the elusive Exam Hall.

Why does Gon leave Whale Island in Hunter x Hunter?

Gon leaves Whale Island to take the Hunter Exam and search for his father, Ging Freecss. Aunt Mito raises him, but Gon chooses to follow the path that made Ging a famous Hunter.

Early in the story, Gon meets Leorio and Kurapika while traveling toward the exam site. Killua Zoldyck joins the central group during the exam itself, creating the main early cast.

Is the Hunter x Hunter manga finished?

No. Yoshihiro Togashi's manga began in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998 and has had long hiatuses because of the author's health issues.

What makes Nen important in Hunter x Hunter?

Nen is the series' core power system, introduced after the early Hunter Exam material. It divides aura use into categories such as Enhancement, Transmutation, and Specialist abilities, which makes fights more tactical than simple power scaling.
