The Illawarra Escarpment is a long sandstone cliff and plateau system in New South Wales, Australia, forming the western edge of the Illawarra coastal plain near Wollongong. The escarpment extends for roughly 50 kilometers and contains steep valleys, lookouts, and forest communities that range from subtropical rainforest to eucalypt woodland. Its protected areas are used for walking, mountain biking, birdwatching, and study of Aboriginal and colonial heritage.
